Two weeks ago (Sept. 6, 2010) I drove to Silverton to investigate a mining claim for sale. The claim is located at 10,700 to 11,300 feet. Part is above timberline and part below. This shot shows the outcropping of granite that covers the side of the mountain. I found various seams of quartz with clear and milky bands ten to twelve inches thick running through the quartz in lines one hundred or more feet across these exposed veins.
I was able to collect a five gallon bucket of great looking gold ore which I will have analyzed soon. I stayed onsite for two days and investigated the surrounding claims and abandoned shafts. Next visit will be with a Gold Bug II on my arm.
And a 9 mm on my belt. The bear scat was ever present and the berries were in abundant supply.
Fore armed is forewarned.
Lee painted this mural in West Grand Junction of himself painting a mural of his wife painting a landscape. Typical of Bowerman's work he twists reality to his perception. I love the shadow of the ladder painted into the painting. Lee gets better all the time.

Microvolts. Tiny machine for tiny voltage. Larger machine for larger voltage. One meter square stack produces approx. 100 watts. Used in multiple applications from remote transmitters to stress monitors for bridges.

Hard to look at. Easier to endure if I don't have to look at it. That has been my experience with pain.
.
Also I have learned. Get it over quickly. Toothache? Pull it. Broken bone? Set it. Toenail? Jerk it off.
.
Then it begins healing.
.
It is Friday all over again. Rolling right along. Days into weeks into months. Bruises, scrapes and contusions heal and we get moments of perfect bliss. I wish it could be bottled for those moments when the toes are torn or the heart is hurt.
.
Seems that only time heals those wounds.
.
Waiting. Moment by moment.
.
Healing. Bit by bit. Day by day. From this experience called living. Till at last I will be healed.

Rocketing through space. All of us. On a living breathing behemoth of summer heat and winter chill. All of us on one small rock in the galactic swamplands. Just north of the galactic backwater. Where we produce graven images of outmoded things. Fragments of our fathers past.

The above photo was from my cell phone. In fact they are all from my cell phone. The screen on my Nokia broke and I have to order a new one online. For $20.36 shipping free I can get the screen. Pop the case, pull, click, plug and reassemble for a restored camera.
.
Or order a new one with digital enhancement HD video up to 2 hours and higher storage capacity.
.
Onward Consumption Warriors! Marching towards the end! And here I am, a blast from the past. Living off the scraps of the land. With the help of a friend. Able to take the time to enjoy this ride into our brave new future.
.
Guess which was ordered?
Maybe BOTH
Monday found the tiny catamaran inside the shop. The oars had a problem with a collar slipping and allowing the oar to move in or out without a stop. Made the craft uncontrolable when it slipped. I replaced he factory bolts and nuts with larger 1/4" bolts and nuts. Have not tested it yet but will take the first opportunity to float that comes along.
.
I filled the garage up with more junk anticipating a garage sale. I plugged in the inflatable pig preparing to use it for an advertisement gimmick. I need to white out large areas of wording on the side of Mr. Pig. After that we will garage sail (sell, sale).

Sunday was a hot afternoon.,
The Roaring Fork has reached summer conditions. The long runoff is over but plenty of water remains to make the float exciting and enjoyable. The water temperature is still cool at about 65 and with the daytime air at 93 Sunday was a perfect time.
Coming around the bend at the compound area (family hangout) I saw this boat backed into the sandbar with the captain standing on the chair casting into the pool I have fished many times. She threw perfect loops and laid the line out flat above the water and her fly fell perfectly into the head of the pool and began its drift. Her form was perfect. So was her cast.
She stood tall in a string bikini with her hair flying in the wind off the river. She saw me headed straight for her in my hobby tube boat and set her pole down, grabbed the oars and with two flicks of her arms was popping out into the current of the rapids run just ahead of her boat. I quickly made it to rivers edge and just in time squeezed off this photo as her boat headed into the rapids. Her arms were conducting this big catamaran directly into the hot area of the river with small moves as she barely moved her arms. She was obviously very good at this.
I held back for a long time not wanting to embarass myself with my flailing and smacking of the water. On a few rapids I entered sideways or backwards and had no control over the boat. I was only hoping to make it through without falling in the rapid moving current.
After a three hour float I finally arrived at Confluence Park on the Colorado River. My heart was pounding and I was ready to do it again.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Now I want a larger boat.

Cut Rate Floating

On Saturday Big Bopper, Miss C, Mr. D and I made the trip to Grand Junction to trade in jeans which were the wrong size and do some shopping for bulk items at Sam's Club.
Being my first trip to Sam's I took extra time to wander most of the aisles. When I came to the aisle with this boat I stopped and went no further. Within twenty minutes we had it loaded and had made our way through the register line.
It was fully assembled and the last one in the store for this year with a $246 price tag. The oars, anchor line and bag, airpump and tools were all included. I have checked the price and these sell usually from $420 - $500.
We finished the day talking about how much fun this boat will be. I promised to find out on Sunday.
